Who we are.

Where it started

Webnova began in 2010 as two freelancers who just wanted to get the details right. We were tired of watching good businesses get handed templated websites and a monthly invoice with nothing behind it. So we started doing the opposite: building things by hand, explaining our decisions, and sticking around long after launch.

Sixteen years and around seven hundred launches later, we are still that same small team. A bit more grey hair, a lot more experience, and a much better coffee machine. We have deliberately stayed small, because the moment you scale a studio into an agency, the people who care get replaced by people who manage. We never wanted that.

The thing we are quietly proudest of is who stayed. Some of our clients came on board before Instagram existed, and they are still with us. We think that is because we care whether their business wins, not just whether their invoice clears. Most new work still arrives the old-fashioned way: someone phones us because they saw what we built for a friend.

“Explain your problem to us, and we will build your solution. That sentence has been on our wall since day one, and it still decides everything we take on.”

The road so far

Sixteen years, told honestly.

No hockey-stick growth chart, no funding rounds. Just steady work, one project at a time, for people we still talk to.

  1. 2010

    Two freelancers, one rule

Webnova starts with a single principle: build it properly or do not build it at all. The first projects are small, but the standard is set early.

  2. 2014

    Beyond websites

Clients start asking for things templates cannot do. Portals, booking systems, internal tools. We lean into custom software, written from scratch, and never look back.

  3. 2018

    We bring hosting in-house

Tired of blaming faceless hosts when something broke, we set up our own manual Linux servers. The same hands that build the software now keep it running.

  4. 2020

NovieGuide, with Edwin van der Walt

A full e-learning platform built alongside one of South Africa’s leading actors. Video, payments, student management, the lot. Still one of our favourite builds.

  5. 2023

    Crossing borders

Work for clients in Europe, including EU fintech and compliance platforms, brings the countries we’ve served to seventeen, all from one small office in Cape Town.

  6. Now

    Building what comes next

AI and automation woven into real products, deeper work across Europe, and the same promise we made in 2010: software made with care, by people who answer the phone.

What we believe

Six things we refuse to compromise on.

We build it by hand

No page builders, no theme stacks, no copy-pasted plugins. Every line is written and understood by a person who can fix it later.

We tell you the truth

Even when it costs us the sale. If a cheaper tool does the job, or the timing is wrong, you will hear it from us first.

We stay

Launch day is the start of the relationship, not the end of the invoice. The people who built it are the people who keep it running.

We stay curious

New tools, new tech, new ways to make software better. We test them properly before they ever touch your project.

We keep it human

Small team, real names. You will always know exactly who you are talking to, and they will know your project.

We sweat the details

The load time nobody measures, the edge case nobody hits, the spacing nobody can name. Those are the bits we obsess over.

The people behind it

A team small enough that you know everyone’s name.

No layers, no handovers, no “let me check with the team and get back to you.” The people on this page are the people who do the work.

We keep the team this size on purpose. It is the only way we know how to stay good at the work and keep caring about it.

Plans the campaigns, watches the numbers, and writes the words that make the work findable. The marketing here is not handed to an outside agency; it is run by the same team that builds the sites.

Let’s build something

Explain your problem.
We’ll code your solution.

No sales pitch. No tiered packages. Just a proper conversation about what you’re trying to do and whether we’re the right team to help you do it. If we are, brilliant. If we’re not, we’ll tell you who is.
